Frequently asked questions
What is the capacitive-slider issue on the Mk8 Golf?
The Mk8 replaced physical climate buttons with a capacitive touch slider strip below the infotainment screen. Stick-on adhesive phone mounts placed low-central on the dashboard can foul the slider zone if placed close to it - a phone case or the mount arm can trigger temperature or fan changes accidentally. The Mk8.5 facelift partly restored physical buttons but the sliders remain capacitive.
Are Golf vent slats horizontal or vertical?
Horizontal on the centre vents. Vent clips must be horizontal-slat-compatible.
Does the Golf have factory wireless charging?
Yes on every Mk8 trim from Life up. The Qi pad sits at the base of the centre console.
Do Mk7 and Mk8 Golf mounts interchange?
No. The Mk8 dashboard is completely redesigned with a larger touchscreen and capacitive controls. Mk7-specific mounts do not fit.
One thing many buyers miss
The Mk8 Golf’s capacitive controls extend to the steering wheel touch pads on higher trims. That does not affect phone mount placement directly, but if you plan a steering-wheel-clip phone accessory, choose one that does not press against the capacitive pads on the wheel spoke.
How to check before ordering
- Confirm your car is Mk8 (2020-onwards); Mk8.5 facelift (MY24) has the same vent layout.
- Vent clips must be horizontal-slat-compatible.
- Avoid placing adhesive mounts near the capacitive slider strip below the touchscreen.
